Design For Print: Information & Wayfinding

This complex information graphics piece caught my eye due to the sheer detail in the design.  There are links everywhere explaining the designer's concept of the future, which gives the viewer a lot to look at.  I like the combination of typographic work, vectored imagery and photographs to compose the piece; it all fits together nicely.

The blending of photographic images, ordered by colour to simulate the colour wheel, is a fresh concept in which I haven't seen before.  I like how the main image is surrounded by negative space and given room to breathe, as this lets it stand out and remain pleasing to the eye.  The typography used is crisp, and the two styles complement each other well.

Colour coding in information graphics is important as it categorises subjects and makes information easy to break down.  The nicely designed, simple icons complement the colours and enhance the clarity of what is being communicated.  This way of presenting information saves the viewer from reading paragraphs of text, whilst still gaining the same knowledge from the design.
