Ancient Nordic Runes & The Futhark Alphabet

After the crit from 9/10, I have realised that my briefs are too broad - they needed narrowing down.  For my typeface design brief, I proposed to create a typeface inspired by "other cultures".  Looking back now, that was a little foolish.  There are thousands of cultures in the world, getting inspiration from all of them would be an impossible task.

I narrowed it down to Scandinavian culture, as I've always had an interest in it, but again it's a little too broad.  The Scandinavians have a diverse history and varying cultures within the different countries.  Sophie suggested that I look at the Nordic alphabet for inspiration - a set of symbols used by the Vikings before the introduction of the Latin alphabet.

The symbols are completely different to the letterforms we use today.  Because of this, I think a combination of both - a latin based typeface with aspects of the Nordic alphabet - is going to make a very fulfilling brief.
